This morning was another first in Drakensberg Boys Choir School’s history. The first Concert Status Assembly (honouring seven boys), was held on 20 August, and presented via Zoom to the rest of the school body, and parents of boys achieving Concert Status. Thank you to the Grade 9 mentors, and of course our New Boys teachers – Mrs Kruger, and Ms Pretorius for their support and guidance. The formalities were followed by a lap of victory through a guard of honour, formed by the rest of the school, standing outside the Academic block.

Prior to this momentous occasion, the boys each sight read a piece in front of the whole choir, followed by signing their voice part in a choral piece, together with a quartet of experienced singers. This was preceded by 30 rigorous tests, covering topics such as how to use a tuning fork, proper posture, and performance protocol.

*COVID-19 restrictions were followed as much as possible, and all safety/sanitizing precautions were taken.

Seen here are back, Grade 9 mentors: Caleb Saks, Blessings Chiluba, Francois Snyman, Luan Wakeford, and LJ Hay. Front: Bradley Dube (Grade 8, from Zimbabwe), Stavros Vassilatos (Grade 7, from Durban North), Raymond Linington (Grade 8, from Johannesburg), Kwanda Dumasi (Grade 4 from Johannesburg), Khumo Gwatyu (Grade 4, from Johannesburg), Ramze Williams (Grade 8 from Cape Town), and Caleb Palane (Grade 7 from Pretoria).
