M After days of torrential rain leading up to the Midmar Mile and then later, our gala, we finally managed to get all water-borne activities out of the way and pack the boys off home for a well-deserved mid-term break.
My first encounter with story-telling and folk tales came when, as a young teacher, I was introduced to South African writer, Marguerite Poland and her excellent book, The Wood-Ash Stars. Later I was fortunate enough to serve under a Headmaster, whose penchant for telling the children stories in his assemblies, had the youngsters hanging on his every word.
