Message from the Artistic Director

The power of music has been documented through countless studies and experiments. Music plays an intrinsic part in human development, with a magnitude of benefits to its credit, in terms of cognitive development, social enrichment, cross-cultural exchange, creativity and even physical health.

Music also plays an important role in society, as an artistic tool, as well as a universal language that spans borders, cultures and languages, with a large economic footprint as a career field.

At the Drakensberg Boys Choir School, we pride ourselves in preparing boys for life and leadership, through nurturing and developing their latent creativity, self-expression, building their self-confidence, whilst giving them a broad worldview and an intellectual, multicultural outlook.

Our Music Programme is centred around choral music, since vocal expression enjoys some of its best moments during this period in a boy’s physical development.

Choral music is a marvellous educational tool in teaching the concepts of self-discipline, posture, intelligence, movement, teamwork, listening skills, creativity, co-ordination and a positive sense of self.

“Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up.” – Pablo Picasso
